Get a Marriage License

Getting a marriage license is the most important step to getting married in Las Vegas. Las Vegas is located in Clark County, Nevada, and that is where you can obtain your marriage license. The cost is only $77 dollars and you currently must apply online.

When applying for a marriage license, you must be eligible for marriage in Nevada. When getting married in Las Vegas, you must be 18 years of age or older, no nearer to kin than second cousins of half-blood, and have no living husband or wife. When going into the Marriage License Bureau to pick up your marriage license you must provide a valid photo ID for you and your fiancé. Acceptable forms of ID include: driver’s license, passport, resident alien identification card, or military ID. It is important to note that Nevada marriage licenses are only valid in Nevada, you cannot use your Nevada marriage license in another state; however, your marriage is still legal. Your license is valid up to a year after registering. Now that you’ve gotten your marriage license on your journey in learning “How to get married in Las Vegas”, your next step is to pre-register with your venue!

Pre-Register With Your Venue or Chapel

Many people may be wandering around looking at wedding chapels wondering how to get married in Las Vegas, and the second step is to pre-register with your venue. Though it is possible to walk in and get married without making an appointment, it will be less stressful for you if you choose a chapel or venue and register with them ahead of time. There are currently regulations determining how many couples are allowed in the waiting area at a time as well as restrictions on guests; it’s better to make an appointment so that you get the date and time you desire.

Get Proof of Your Marriage License

After you get married, your officiant has 10 business days to register your license. After those 10 days you can order your proof of marriage from the Clark County Recorder's Office, Your marriage license on it’s own is not proof of marriage and it must be registered in order for the marriage to be legal. After it is registered, it will be shipped to you. Domestic shipping may take 7-10 days. Be sure to store your marriage license in a safe place once you receive it.
