About Union Station Chicago

Chicago’s Union Station, located at 225 S. Canal Street, just outside the Loop, opened in 1925 and was originally built to serve as a union of four different railroad lines that serviced the entire country. All together, Union Station is the size of ten city blocks and serves nearly 140,000 passengers on an average weekday, making it the third busiest train station in the country, and the fourth busiest Amtrak hub.

PHONE CHARGING UNION STATION GREAT HALL

The Great Hall at Chicago’s Union Station is an architectural marvel with a vaulted ceiling and marble floors and columns. It has been featured in a number of movies and TV shows such as The Untouchables, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and ER. It serves as a central location within Union Station and was always intended to hold large numbers of people, and see heavy daily use by passengers.

NORTH AND SOUTH TERMINALS

Union Station is unique in that it was built as a “double stub” station, wherein 24 tracks approach from two directions but do not continue under or through the station. The North Terminal has odd-numbered tracks and the South Terminal contains the even-numbered tracks. Local commuter rail Metra and national passenger rail Amtrak trains depart from both terminals, depending on their final destinations.

The North and South Terminals each contain a MobileQubes phone charging kiosk, located near the escalators in each terminal, so whether you’re coming or going, you can make sure that your mobile device will be fully charged. Qubes can be rented or purchased outright, depending on your need.

Just above the North and South Terminals is the mezzanine, which has a small food court and a few newsstands, allowing passengers to grab a quick snack or a magazine before or after their trip.

One kiosk is located closer to the Adams Street exit. The other is within the food court, closer to the Jackson Street exit.
