About the MGM Grand Las Vegas
The MGM Grand Hotel and Casino is located on the Vegas Strip at 3799 S. Las Vegas Boulevard and is the largest single hotel in the United States.
When the hotel opened in 1993 it was owned by the MGM Grand movie production company and featured an extensive Wizard of Oz theme, which accounts for the green “Emerald City” color of the building itself. Indoor attractions included animatronic figures of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man, and the Wicked Witch of the West, as well as scenes and locations from the movie.
The casino and resort’s original entrance was a giant lion’s head, made to resemble MGM’s logo, Leo the Lion. Visitors would enter the casino through the lion’s mouth. Renovations in 1996 and 2000 removed the lion’s jaws entrance and nearly all traces of the Wizard of Oz theme.
The resort and casino has featured prominently in American popular culture, making appearances in films like:
The Great White Hype
National Lampoon Vegas Vacation
Casino games feature prominently at the MGM Grand, which boasts one of the largest casino floors in Las Vegas, at over 170,000 feet. There are over 2500 gaming machines and 139 poker and table games. For guests who prefer to gamble on live sports, the resort and casino offers “Skyboxes,” which are private rooms for up to ten people to view events.
As a resort, the MGM Grand has several properties for guests to stay and enjoy themselves. The main hotel building has 5044 rooms, including 751 suites for VIP guests. Apart from the main building, guests can stay at the luxurious SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand, The Mansion at MGM Grand, and The Signature at MGM Grand for a plush experience like no other.
Hotel guests and visitors to Las Vegas can choose to visit the MGM Grand for entertainment like magician and illusionist David Copperfield and Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club. The Ka Theater is home to a Cirque du Soleil production, and the MGM Grand Garden Arena hosts major concerts and sporting events.
Las Vegas is known for its incredible restaurants and the MGM Grand is no exception. James Beard award-winning chef and Top Chef host Tom Collichio operates his restaurant Craftsteak at the resort and casino. Other lauded chefs like Joel Robuchon, Emeril Lagasse, and Wolfgang Puck have restaurants on site as well.
Thousands of people pass through the casino and resort every day, and plenty of them are in need of a quick charge for their smartphones or other mobile devices. If you’ve forgotten a charging cord at home or can’t find a free outlet, getting your device out of the red can be a huge hassle.
